The divorce between my daughter and her ex-husband is now over. She lost custody of her 2 year old baby boy. Can't understand the reasoning a judge takes a baby away from its mother. No, she is not a drug addict. No, she is not a thief either. Absolutely does not beat her child. No, she is a person who has a mental illness. She has bipolar with rapid cycling. He is a person with a long rap sheet of minor offenses like grand theft and assault and battery. If you consider those minor like the judge does.
There is much information about being bipolar. Several Hollywood stars are known to have it; have written bestselling books about being it and some claim to have it as a way of excusing their poor behavior. Let me tell you what I have learned by having a daughter who is bipolar. Best way I can think to describe it to you is like being on a roller coaster which keeps going faster and faster and you are sitting in the cart alone and in a black void. You do not see the turns coming your way. It takes a minute to realize whether you are going up or coming down. Confusion reins. Heart races. Fright is like a lump in your throat that you can not swallow to make it disappear.
Friends and family disappear. Some are in a hurry to disappear as if they are afraid that bipolar is a catchable disease. Others refused to learn about the rages of the disease (yes, I know it is not legally labeled a disease but it should be), they become afraid and leave you alone with family support.
