By the Buffalo

Somewhere in the Hill Country of Texas, we ran across some buffalo trying to graze on nearly non-existant grass. Had not rain there in about two years. Just outside the fence area were these beautiful wildflowers.

As I took the picture of the Mexican Hats and the purple flowers (haven't found out what they are yet), I thought about the old saying, "The grass is greaner on the otherside."

Momma always told me that saying was an old wives tale and not to be believing it. However, I think in this, as I looked at the barren and rocky ground the buffalo was trying to find a nibble or two, in this case I think, Momma, the saying is true.

wildflower being weird

This wildflower plant is really weird. It grows wild on the side of the house on a little sliver of ground. It only blooms in the morning and not even every day.

Don't know what it is but is very delicate and pretty when it does bloom.

I keep meaning to print out the pictures of wildflowers and take to the local nursery to see if they can identify the flowering plant. Of course I could look them up on the Internet but I just never seem to have time.

I have a new camera since my Olympus walked out and has not returned home. So I always try to learn the camera with wildflower picture taking as they are growing all over the place. Behind the house is a huge electrical easement and the flowers are all over the place. This to me looks like the lantana but I have never seen one that is all purple with the little white center. Now that I have a bunch of the photos to share, I will place one a day on this blog so that I can share with you.

Winter's Day

It is so chilly, jacket weather although some people would think it cold enough to wear a coat!! Rainy off and on, gun-metal colored sky.

Thought I would show one of my wild flower pics. Makes for a warm thought. As I drove down the feeder road, I notice a few bluebonnets blooming and some yellow lazy susans and pink buttercups blooming. Give another week of warm days and wildflowers will be blooming in mass. So you will probably see more Texas wildflower pics on this side.

Wildflowers or weeds

I really don't care if they are weeds or wildflowers. These stem just grow all over the yard this time of the year and they bring back such sweet memories. We girls would go out at recess and pick them around the play yard. Tying the string ends together then tying the flower end togethers to form bridal halos to wear around our heads. Where is the Sweet? Well, the sweet part would come along when the boys would rip the halos from around out heads, running and tearing them up. We girls were the wrong bunch to do that do! Chase was on and if we got a hit on the boys nose, back or wrestle to the gound. we defended outselves to the best of our ability, Girls Rule!

Spring is springing into bloom

Every now and then my camera will take a good picture. Of course, all the bad pictures that are taken are not my fault. Of course not.

Weather being warm, not counting the next couple of nights where temps will be in the 30's after the sun goes down, spring has sprung here in southeast Texas. Cars are beginning to be yellowed with pollen, trees are getting new buds, mommies are pushing strollers with their babies around the block. Beautiful days and cool nights. Yes, spring is here.
