Today's Edit - Thursday - Saloon girls

Bet you thought all saloon girls were tramps, whore, etc. Surprise! Saloon girls actually started out as widows. They were nice girls, some of them were minister's wives trying to help raise money for the minister or church building projects. Blow me over with a feather. Their jobs were to get the cowboys and other men to drink up. When a patron of the saloon wanted to buy their "girl" a drink, the bartender would serve the "girl" tea and the patron whiskey or rot gut. The more drunk the patron got, the more the man was willing to part with his hard earned money and the women stayed sober to be able to move on to the next guy.
