Mr. Barney

I thought I was being rather smart about squirrels. That I would be up one on Mr. Barney. You see, hear me chuckle, I thought that if I purchased Mr. Barney his own squirrel (I can hear you laughing already), house with food, he would naturally leave the bird feeder alone.

Ok, so I was wrong. You don't have to laugh that hard. It was a honest wrong way of thinking. Yes, Mr. Barney first ate out of the bird feeder then finished off the squirrel food as his breakfast snack.

You can stop laughing now.

The easiest way to get squirrels to leave the bird feeder alone is to have mean birds. At my parents' house back in Ohio, the big blue jays will actually fight the squirrels for the food! It was quite amusing to watch. the birds would fight off the squirrel, and when they were done, the squirrels would come meekly back up for the leftovers.
